"Back in about 1979, when we first started making and marketing OBIE, we received a letter from a nurse at a major rehabilitation facility in the northeast United States (New Jersey I think).  The nurse was the primary care giver for a little girl (5 or 6 years old) who had been in a major car accident in which her parents were killed.  While the little girl was not hurt physically, the trauma of being in the car with her parents when they died had emotionally destroyed her.  For several months, she had been in an almost catatonic state.  She would not eat, or speak, or even acknowledge anyone's presence with her.  One day, the nurse was standing in the door of the little girl's room, showing an OBIE to another nurse.  It caught the little girl's eye, and made her laugh.  It brought her back into the world, so the nurse sat down and wrote a letter to us to tell us the story.  It truely made the whole OBIE project worthwhile."
