All About Vaping

Hi! My name is Dave Livingston. I'm the Founder and President of JDL Associates, and I've been tobacco-free since January 24, 2009. But for almost forty-six (46) years, I was hopelessly addicted to tobacco, smoking about a pack and a half every day. And my wife smoked about the same amount for more than twenty-seven (27) years. Over time, we tried EVERYTHING to stop smoking, cold-turkey, cutting-down, hypnosis, acupuncture, nicotine gum, nicotine patches, pills . . . the whole nine yards. But nothing ever worked. Even though we were constantly wheezing, coughing, feeling terrible, and desperately wanting to quit, we just could not stop smoking cigarettes. We were hopelessly, desperately addicted.

Then, we discovered electronic cigarettes (e-cigs). We were skeptical when we first heard about them, but the prospect of finding something that would give us the same experience as smoking, without any of the bad stuff, was very appealing. So, we decided to make the investment in a couple of starter kits to determine if that possibility was real.

The first e-cigs that we purchased were of the original 3 piece design, consisting of a battery, an atomizer, and a cartridge which holds the e-liquid. At first we were very impressed. The taste and sensations were good approximations of smoking a regular cigarette, but without any tobacco or smoke, just an odorless, flavored vapor that immediately dissipated as soon as we exhaled. And the best part was that we immediately stopped smoking cigarettes. We actually liked vaping better than smoking!

BUT THAT'S NOT WHERE THE STORY ENDS. After vaping happily for a week or so, we were concerned that the life of the cartridges was equivalent to only about a half-pack of regular cigarettes. At a cost of $2.00 each, that made vaping almost as expensive as smoking, plus the cost of the equipment. It just wasn’t a good deal. But after a little bit of Internet research, we learned all about e-liquid, or e-juice as some vapers call it. The cartridges can be refilled with e-liquid, and reused. You can buy e-liquid for less than $1.00 per milliliter (ml), and each ml is equivalent to about one pack of regular cigarettes. Now we’re talking! And e-liquid comes in many different really great flavors, including tobacco flavor.

So we bought several flavors of e-liquid, and we were off and running. But then after a couple of weeks, my wife started complaining that her jaws hurt from the hard draw of the e-cig, like sucking a thick milkshake through a straw. And then, my atomizer burned out, which, as we later learned, happens frequently. My wife gladly gave her e-cig to me, and reverted back to smoking regular cigarettes. But that e-cig wasn’t working very well either. After some more Internet research, we found out that atomizers just don’t last very long. They either burn out, or produce less and less vapor as they are used, or the draw gets harder and harder. At between $10.00 and $25.00 for a new atomizer, which will only last for a couple of weeks, the cost again got out of line. We bought several replacement atomizers, and tried all kinds of ways to clean them and extend their life, but nothing worked very well.

We were discouraged, and my wife was smoking instead of vaping. We thought that there had to be a better solution, so we went to work. We bought and tested samples of all of the various types of vaping devices, pen styles, minis, super minis, mini pen styles, cigars, pipes, etc. And we spent many, many hours reading or watching many, many product reviews. But every product that we tested, and every product about which we read or watched a review, always had the same problems, hard draw, short atomizer life, short battery life, not enough vapor, low density vapor, unresponsive switches, etc., etc., etc. And none of the products that we tested really gave us the "hit" that you get from a regular cigarette. None of them truly replicated the smoking experience. After a couple of months, we were really discouraged!

Then, at just about the time that we were going to give up, we happened to see a review of a new product, the KR808D-1. What caught our eye were the claims of a super-easy draw and “clouds” of vapor. But what really sparked our interest was the fact that this was truly a new type of vaping device in which the atomizer and the cartridge are combined into a single device called a “cartomizer”. At about the same price as a conventional cartridge, you get a brand new atomizer in every new cartridge!

We were convinced, and ordered a starter kit. It seemed like it took forever to arrive in the mail, and every hour of waiting just lifted our expectations higher and higher. In fact, our expectations were so high that I was afraid that we'd be disappointed no matter how good the new device was. Then, when it finally arrived, the batteries needed to be charged for 8 hours before we could try it. The anticipation lifted our expectations even more. But boy was it worth the wait! The draw is extremely light, like sucking water through a straw, just about like a regular cigarette, and the "hit" is perfect! In fact, the KR808D-1 is the best device that we tested in EVERY one of the following categories:

Draw Force Cartridge Capacity
"Hit" Quality Battery Life
Vapor Amount Switch Responsiveness
Vapor Density Refilling Ease
Taste Smoothness Overall Smoking Replication

We were so impressed that we bought 3 more KR808D-1 starter kits, so that we would each have extra batteries and an extra charger, and we both have been exclusively vaping ever since. We are no longer wheezing or coughing. We feel tremendously better. And we've never missed smoking even one little bit. In fact, after my wife had been using the KR808D-1 exclusively for just 2 weeks, I challenged her to smoke a regular cigarette. After 2 puffs, she couldn't stand it. She ground it out in the ashtray and said that it was the most vile, disgusting thing that she'd ever done.

We have been so impressed with this amazing product, that we decided to start importing them and selling them on this website at the lowest possible price, so that all smokers can have the opportunity to try it, and become tobacco free with ease. As vapers say, "Vape on baby!"

All About E-Liquid

E-Liquid is what makes vaping work. It is primarily a mixture of water, high-quality food-grade propylene glycol, and food-grade flavoring. Food grade propylene glycol ("PG") is a very common, non-toxic, faintly sweet, colorless, clear, viscous liquid, used:

* as a solvent in many pharmaceuticals, including oral, injectable and topical formulations,
* as a moisturizer in medicines, cosmetics, food, toothpaste, mouth wash, and tobacco products,
* as a solvent for food colors and flavorings,
* as an additive to pipe tobacco to prevent dehydration,
* in smoke machines to make artificial smoke for use in firefighter training and theatrical productions, and
* in many, many other applications including electronic cigarettes.

Some e-liquid also contains food-grade vegetable glycerin ("VG"). Some vapers believe that e-liquid containing VG produces a higher volume of thicker, smoother tasting vapor, but that it also decreases the life of atomizers.

E-Liquid is available from many websites in many different flavors. But everyone's taste is a little different. Just because a particular e-liquid product is more expensive, or it comes from a really fancy website, or even if it has received a great review, doesn't mean that it is good quality or that you will like it. We once purchased a bottle of e-liquid from a very reputable website, that had received wonderful reviews, and that was very expensive. When my wife tried it, she said that it tasted like "cat pee", and I agreed with her. It was simply awful, and we even had to dispose of the atomizer in which we tried it because we could not get the taste out of it.

And some vapers will like a particular flavor while other vapers will not. My wife loves cherry flavored e-liquid. Her favorite mix is 3 drops of cherry with 1 drop of pina colada and 1 drop of pineapple. To me, on the other hand, cherry flavored e-liquid is only good for flushing down the toilet. I hate it. My favorite mix is 6 drops of tobacco with 3 drops of pina colada and 1 drop of strawberry.

The bottom line is that when you want to try a new flavor, start with a small bottle (<10 ml), to see how well you like it. We learned the hard way, and have purchased several large bottles (30 ml) of flavors that we just don't use at all.

E-Liquid usually comes in high, medium, low and zero strengths of nicotine. But "high" is not the same to everyone. Sometimes "high" means 24 milligrams per milliliter (mg/ml), and sometimes it means 16 mg/ml. At Vaping101.com, we supply e-liquid in 7 different strengths, 24, 20, 16, 12, 8, 4 and 0 mg/ml. This allows you to closely control how much nicotine you are vaping. If you smoked full-flavor regular cigarettes, you should probably start vaping at 20 or 24 mg/ml. If you smoked light regular cigarettes, you should probably start vaping at 16 or 20 mg/ml. And if you smoked ultra-light regular cigarettes, you should probably start vaping at 12 or 16 mg/ml. Then, if you step down at a rate of 4 mg/ml every 2 to 3 weeks, you'll probably never notice the difference, and before you know it, you'll still be vaping happily, but you won't be addicted to nicotine any more!

At Vaping101.com, we custom mix each bottle of e-liquid to order. Our formulas are secret, but we start with only the highest grade of tasteless e-liquid. Then we carefully mix the specific nicotine concentration and flavoring that was ordered.

Depending on vaping technique, the average vaper will use between one and two ml of e-liquid to replicate the experience of smoking one package of regular cigarettes. The average cost of e-liquid should be about fifty-cents ($0.50) per ml, depending on the quantity purchased and the flavor. Therefore, the average e-liquid cost to replicate one package of regular cigarettes should be about seventy-five cents ($0.75).

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT CONCENTRATED NICOTINE IS A POISON! ONLY USE E-LIQUID IN THE PRESCRIBED MANNER, AND ALWAYS KEEP IT AWAY FROM CHILDREN!

All About Cartomizers

The secret to the exceptional performance of the KR808D-1 electronic cigarette is the design of the cartomizer. It is a combination of an atomizer and an e-liquid cartridge into a single unit. The integration of the atomizer with the cartridge allows for a much more efficient design, which uses less e-liquid to produce a higher amount of denser (thicker) vapor than the conventional design of other vaping devices that utilize a separate atomizer and cartridge.

The integrated design also allows the KR808D-1 cartomizer to hold about three (3) times more e-liquid than a conventional cartridge. This means that the average one pack-per-day smoker will typically use only one to two cartomizers per day, depending on vaping technique, instead of three to five conventional cartridges. This is a huge difference in both cost and convenience.

But one of the best things about KR808D-1 cartomizers is that they are easy to refill. Conventional cartridges typically need to be disassembled to be refilled, and need to be cleaned periodically. This is messy business. To refill a cartomizer, however, you just drip the e-liquid into the little hole in the battery end and you’re done. Please read the “How to Refill KR808D-1 Cartomizers” section below for more information.

But the absolute best thing about KR808D-1 cartomizers is that you get a brand new atomizer with every new cartomizer. All atomizers in all vaping devices wear out very quickly. When an atomizer is working properly, it will produce a high volume of thick, smooth and flavorful vapor, and drawing air through the device will be similar to sucking water through a straw. As an atomizer ages, however, the volume and density of the vapor produced decreases, the flavor of the vapor becomes harsh (less smooth and hotter), and drawing air through the device will be more like sucking a thick milkshake through a straw. Our testing has concluded that most atomizers will work properly for about ten days to two weeks of average, normal use. After that, they just don’t work very well any more, and the vaping experience becomes less than satisfying.

New atomizers for most conventional vaping devices sell for from $10 to $25, so the cost of replacement atomizers could easily add from $1 to $2 per day to the cost of vaping for the average vaper. But for the same cost as a new conventional cartridge, about $2, you can get a new cartomizer which contains a brand new atomizer. It’s like getting a new atomizer for FREE!

The average vaper will need between one and two full KR808D-1 cartomizers to replicate the experience of smoking one pack of regular cigarettes, depending on the vaping technique. Each cartomizer can be refilled from 10 to 14 times before it will need to be replaced. So, for the average vaper, one cartomizer will replicate the experience of smoking about 8 packs of regular cigarettes. At a cost of $2.00 each, the total cartomizer cost to replicate smoking one pack of regular cigarettes is about twenty-five cents ($0.25).

How To Refill Cartomizers

When the vapor produced by a cartomizer develops a distinct, harsh, burnt-paper taste, it is the signal that the cartomizer is empty and needs to be refilled. As soon as you taste this harsh burnt-paper flavor, STOP VAPING IMMEDIATELY, and change to a new or refilled cartomizer.

To refill a cartomizer, please be patient, take your time, and follow these instructions carefully. To do it right, refilling a cartomizer will take about 2 to 3 minutes.

First, remove and save both of the end caps and the plug. Hold the cartomizer in one hand with the threaded (battery) end pointed up. Do not set the cartomizer on a surface. It must be held so that air can escape from the bottom (mouthpiece end) as you drip e-liquid into the top (battery end). Gently drop one drop at a time of e-liquid onto the center of the battery end of the cartomizer. The drop will first form a small bead, and then will drain into the cartomizer through the small hole. After the drop completely drains into the hole, place the cartomizer on its side on a flat surface and roll it back and forth for a couple of seconds. Pick the cartomizer up and repeat the process for the next drop of e-liquid. This process will ensure that the e-liquid is completely absorbed and evenly distributed inside of the cartomizer, and will require about 5 seconds per drop.

Filling a new empty cartomizer will require approximately twenty-five (25) drops of e-liquid. However, refilling a used cartomizer will only require about twenty (20) drops. If, at any time during the refilling process described above, e-liquid begins to drip out of the bottom (mouthpiece) end, then the cartomizer is full. If the cartomizer holds less than twenty drops, it simply means that it was not completely empty at the start of the refilling process.

After the prescribed number of drops has been dripped into the cartomizer, use a paper towel, or a piece of tissue paper, to thoroughly clean (dry) the battery end of the cartomizer. Then replace the plug into the small hole and replace the end caps onto the cartomizer. A freshly filled cartomizer can be used immediately, but for the best results, it should be allowed to rest, with the plug and end caps in place, for a couple of hours before it is used. This ensures that the e-liquid is completely absorbed, resulting in better vaping performance. As long as the plug and end caps are in place, filled cartomizers can be stored indefinitely.

Be Patient with New
or Refilled Cartomizers

A new or refilled KR808D-1 cartomizer will begin producing vapor immediately, but the volume and density of the vapor will be significantly reduced until it has been fully primed. So, be patient. It will take about 10 to 15 long puffs, drawing air through the cartomizer for about 4 seconds per puff, to prime the cartomizer. After it has been primed, you will be rewarded with loads of nice, thick, smooth vapor.

All About Batteries

In all vaping devices, the battery supplies power to the atomizer to actually produce the vapor. It turns on when you start to draw (suck) on the device, and turns completely off when you are not drawing on the device. Most vaping devices use lithium ion batteries, and the same Motorola microprocessor controller chip. But 2 things make each model a little different than the others, battery life and the switch.

The switch is what turns the device on when you draw air through it. The responsiveness of the switch is a measure of how fast it turns on when you start to draw. There is always some amount of delay, and vapers usually develop a technique of using a "primer puff", a short draw to get the battery turned on before actually drawing the vapor into the mouth and lungs. The switch in the KR808D-1 battery is very responsive, and does not require a primer puff.

All rechargeable batteries have both a "primary life" and a "secondary" life. The primary life is how many times it can be recharged before it will need to be replaced. All lithium ion batteries, including KR080D-1 batteries, have a primary life of about 100 recharges.

The secondary life of rechargeable batteries is how long they will supply power between recharges. We measure the secondary battery life in "puffs". A puff is defined as one full cycle of drawing air through the device for enough time to produce enough vapor to provide a satisfying "hit" when the vapor is inhaled. Please read the "General Notes on Vaping" section below for more information about "puffs".

The batteries in most vaping devices have a secondary life of about 100 to 200 puffs when they are new, depending on the puffing technique of each individual vaper. Because of the unique design of the KR808D-1 cartomizer, the secondary life of KR808D-1 batteries is about 300 to 400 puffs when they are new. However, the secondary life of rechargeable batteries typically decreases a little bit each time that they are recharged. By the end of their primary life, the secondary life will typically decrease by about fifty percent (50%).

So, if you do the math, each KR808D-1 battery should provide power for an average total of about 26,250 puffs before it will need to be replaced, depending on the puffing technique of each individual vaper. It takes about 300 puffs to replicate the experience of smoking one package of cigarettes, which is about 15 puffs per cigarette. That means that one KR808D-1 battery will support the replication of smoking about 87 packages of cigarettes. At a cost of twenty dollars ($20.00) per battery, the average battery cost to replicate smoking one package of regular cigarettes should be about twenty-three cents ($0.23).

In order to get as much use as possible from KR808D-1 batteries, they should be charged for a minimum of eight (8) hours prior to using them for the first time, and recharged for four (4) hours between each use. Leave the batteries in the charger for these times even if the light on the charger turns green. Also, wait until the light on the end of the battery blinks about 20 times before recharging. This is the signal that the battery needs to be recharged. The last few puffs before the light starts blinking will not generate very much vapor, but wait until the light starts blinking anyway. This will extend the battery life.

Take the Two Week Challenge

Changing from smoking to vaping is very easy for some people, and a little harder for others. As with anything, vaping does take a little "getting used to". But we are confident that after a few days, you will enjoy the vaping experience as much, and probably more, than you enjoyed smoking regular cigarettes. We challenge you to use the KR808D-1 electronic cigarette EXCLUSIVELY for two weeks. This means NO CHEATING! Don't smoke regular cigarettes for two weeks. Then, try to smoke one, and it will be so vile and disgusting that you will not want to finish it. If you do want to continue smoking regular cigarettes afterwards, we'll send you a free pack of your favorite brand. So, take the challenge! You'll be very happy that you did!

General Notes on Vaping

The bottom line is that the average vaper can replicate the experience of smoking one pack of regular cigarettes for a total cost of about $1.23, depending on vaping technique. That cost includes everything you need, starter kit(s), e-liquid, replacement cartomizers, and replacement batteries.

The average price of cigarettes in the USA is now well over $5.00 per pack. So, with the KR808D-1 electronic cigarette, you can:

(1) stop smoking by replacing it with something that you will enjoy more, that is less harmful to you, that is much cleaner and odorless, and that is much more convenient,

(2) reduce your cost by more than seventy-five percent (75%), and

(3) eliminate your addiction to nicotine without even missing it.

It's almost too good to be true, but it is!

Please remember to be patient when you first start vaping. It is not exactly the same experience as smoking, and at first, some people think that it is "harsh". But after getting used to it, you will find that vaping provides a better, more enjoyable experience than smoking.

Each individual will develop their own vaping technique, but in general, you will want to take longer, slower puffs on the KR808D-1 than you would on a regular cigarette. If you normally take a 1 to 2 second puff on a regular cigarette, try taking a slower, 3 to 4 second puff on the KR808D-1. This will enhance the "hit", and make the experience more enjoyable.

If you have any questions, or need any additional information, please feel free to contact us here at Vaping101.com. We would love to hear from you!
